Back in April of 2003 we officially unveiled the "Synners" video to the public at the Parkdale Film Festival. That version contained nearly four minutes of footage that was cut for time in order to make it easier for the public to download the video and make it easier for broadcasters to show the video on programs and channels. Now, we've located the original Director's cut file and uploaded it to the web for your enjoyment.

In the extra four minutes you will see Raven Nightshado and I make expository appearances as well as an end credit sequence that is cued by "Drumeria" another original and unheard until now DPS track.

Dead Poets Society - "Synners (Director's cut of the music video)

We apologize for the frame quality. Shooting was done on a primitive digital camcorder in 2002 and transferred at a lower than optimal range. We had hoped to make much better transfer, but unfortunately the original shooting files have since been lost.

By popular demand, "Its Too Late (dead poets society mix)" is now available to listen and purchase at the higher fidelity bit rate of 192 kbps rather than the old 96kbps encoding. This means the song will sound far deeper and with more clarity than before. Check it out for yourself here. Purchase yourself a copy that is free of any DRM limits for only 75 cents. That is a higher bit rate than iTunes and 25% off of their price!

It has also been included on an exclusive mp3 CD we've created called "Remixes and Rarities" that compiles some of our better known remixes and rare songs for a measly $6.99. These songs include "Rebirth", "The Portal (d-rokk remix)", "So Much Beauty", and "The Voice of Ecstasy". More to come soon.

For those unfamiliar with Weed format, it is a Windows Media Player format that allows anyone to download a song and listen to it free of charge for three times before the user must decided whether they to buy it or not. We know it often takes more than one listen before a song becomes one of your favorites. This allows many to get an unfettered chance to try out songs for awhile and let them sink in. As a bonus, if a user registers with Weed (which is also free), you can earn money from the song by reposting the purchased weed song files on your site, bulletin boards, in your email signature, etc. for download. If someone buys the song from one of your postings, you also earn some cash from the sale.
Welcome. www.thedeadpoets.org has been in existence for almost six years now. We haven't made any real major changes around here since that time. Minor tweaks here and there, but nothing serious. Well, of course, the existence of this Blog portends some new changes that are underway. Newest of the changes is a redesign of our website www.thedeadpoets.org

To be quite frank, we are managing the website ourselves, thus the redesign will take place often in our spare time and as we pick up new skills and techniques that we think could really benefit you our fans. While we redesign the site, we've also decided it is time to blow the dust off the site and get some housecleaning accomplished,as it were, as we make some improvements.

We've already made a few minor tweaks that we expect should immediately improve performance with regard to our videos. We've uploaded and linked our videos for "Synners" and "This Side of Forever" at the Youtube.com site for streaming. This should reduce the wait times for viewing. It also allows you the opportunity to archive the videos in your favorites folder there as well as rate us. We also think it will be a cool way for you to discover other cool indie artists who are doing interesting work. We are also committed to posting any future videos on the youtube.com site as well, so be certain to subscribe to us there and you will be among the first to receive any new videos.

Speaking of keeping in touch, we hope that this blog and your ability to subscribe to our RSS feed will make it easier for us to keep you up to date with things that happen in the DPS world. We will still keep our Yahoo group Society of the Dead Poets around of course if you would prefer. I imagine that short of super major annoucements, we will probably make this our main site for group related things that we find interesting, or think might interest you.

We hope you had the chance to get your singles at our ampcast page. That site has recently folded. We are now uploading all of our tracks including the songs from our official albums The Electric Haze and Deprogramming, as well as many of our more rare tracks and remixes to our soundclick.com site for your listening pleasure. This will be the only spot where you can purchase our rare and remix tracks. Includes our remixes for Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Collide, Madonna and Hotboxed.

Gradually we will be moving over all of the entries that had been listed on the old news page to our blog. We hope that it will make things easier for people to locate a previous entry they were interested in viewing. We hope you like the new format. We look forward to hearing your ideas and comments regarding the new changes as they occur.

Want to help us distribute your favorite DPS music and earn yourself some money in the process? DPS just recently made their music available in the WEED file format. You can become a music distributor instantly by downloading a collection of our Weed files and posting them on a website. It's that easy. You don't have to fill out any applications, go to any interviews, attend any meetings, file any reports, or answer to anyone.

When someone downloads a file from your site and buys it, you make money. So do we the artist, and so do YOU who helped distribute it. More specifically, the rightsholder receives 50% of each sale, you get 20%, the person who shared the file with you gets 10%, and the person who shared the file with that person gets 5% of the sale price.

You also can distribute your Weed files through a P2P network, FTP, or IRC. Sharing Weed files via email is not recommended, however, because the files are so large (4-6 megabytes). But email can be an important part of your distribution efforts if you post your files to your website and then email the links to your network of friends.

All you need to get started is a Weed file, the free Weed software, a PayPal account, and some ideas for distribution. Click on our MUSIC button on the Nav bar above to learn more details and which DPS songs are available for distribution.

Dead Poets Society has about twelve to fourteen songs in various stages of completion. About five of them are VERY close to being in the final mix stages. We are still going back and re-recording tracks or lyrics we are unhappy with but this has been happening less and less often. The new album is a concept album. We expect to re-vamp the website to echo the design we are considering for the new album. We originally came up with concepts for about twenty songs and are diligently trying to narrow down the tracks that will actually end up on the new album. Every time we re-arrange the song order, we find ourselves making new and altering old segues that reveal some of the exposition that drives the new material. Additionally there has been some talk about recording some live drum tracks in a new studio we recently discovered.

October 6th

Dead Poets Society Releases New Video To Web

A full-length video of Dead Poets Society's controversial darkwave single SYNNERS is now available for free viewing online at www.thedeadpoets.org. The track has been declared innovative by many, garbage by others. You decide. The video features the character Sin Drome portrayed by Hotboxed lead singer and Dead Poets Society collaborator, Ryan Mann. Sin's girlfriend and unwitting victim is portrayed by Sara Wooding.

Mann collaborated on the actual recording of the song, and is the screaming voice heard during the chorus. Of the recording experience, Mann has said "I had always liked the song SYNNERS from the first time I heard it, which was at a soundcheck before a show they were headlining. Even a week after the show I still couldn't get the song out of my head. When Raven told me that she wanted to try something new with the song and wondered if I would be interested in doing some guest vocals, I was a little unsure, not that I didn't want to do it, but I have never worked with a project like this. I wasn't sure how it was going to sound at first, and I didn't want to screw up a song that was already badass to begin with. Needless to say, I went over and did it anyway and it turned out great. I'm definitely honored that I could be part of such a great song and work with a great group of people."

To watch or download the SYNNERS vid, check it out in the GALLERY. More videos will follow in this space.
