Remixes and Reflections

We’ve done some remixes over the years for other bands. Many of them have been, or still are available on sites like mp3.com, soundclick.com, etc. We figured it was about time that we collect them all in one place, and furthermore to make them available as a podcast,  and RSS Feed to anyone who would like to keep up with them. Occasionally, we may add our recollections and reflections to the feed, which should spice things up once in awhile. We also may provide you with previews of new, or other previously unheard tracks, as well.

Enjoy the first one we’ve posted. It is our extremely popular remix of Depeche Mode’s “I Feel Loved (dead poets society)” mix.

The new site...

Welcome to the new official site for Dead Poets Society! We've been wanting to expand the site, and include many of the features that have become available to the web over the past few years for a long time now. We think we've finally found a platform that will allow us to do just that!

We've begun the process of housecleaning the old site entries, verifying links, and  updating information where possible. We hope you enjoy the new site as much as we do!

16 years later, still changing for the machines

A Nice Week of DPS Laden Podcasts.

The music of Dead Poets Society has been listed at The Podsafe Music Network for just over a week now and we’ve been fortunate enough to have had our songs Halo (dead poets society mix), Invisible Monsters, Synners, Fire Bolt (live at the zebra lounge), and Mohawk (dead poets society mix) all played on GD’s Bite Size Bonus, A Better Day and
Bump You Up.

I’ve mentioned GD’s Bite Size Bonus in a previous post a few days back. I can’t express how cool Green Dragon’s show is. It is really remarkable what kind of global music program he is able to put together five days a week, Monday through Friday. If you are a music fan, I highly recommend this program. I can’t get over the fact that he played “The Electric Haze” last week and has generously played our Collide remix “Halo (dead poets society mix)”, “Synners” (influenced by the novel by Pat Cadigan), and our Hotboxed remix “Mohawk (dead poets society mix) this week.

That our music was played on A  Better Day, the fitness podcast,  was a bit of a surprise to me as I had never considered that someone might enjoy hearing our song “Invisible Monsters” (inspired by Chuck Palahniuk’s novel of the same name) while working up a sweaty lather. Okay, I had considered it, but I had always envisioned someone working up an entirely different kind of sweaty lather. lol

Bump You Up is a brand new podcast. Our song “Fire Bolt (live from the Zebra lounge)” appeared in the second episode. DJ Trashy, the host, indicates that he created the show as a resource for podcasters to find “intros, outros, musical beds and jingles”. I’ll be honest, the podcast sounds like it is still settling into a groove and finding its way. Although you can still hear the rough edges  it is clearly heartfelt. It remains to be seen how the show will mature and develop.

Some of you may remember that DPS was on mp3.com before it folded. As of December 2003 we moved our songs to Soundclick.com. We are happy to announce that Soundclick.com finally worked out all the kinks to a brand new feature… the return of STATIONS!

Moving Hands reviews Decomposition: Reinventing Minefield.

” …I haven’t heard the original versions so I have no idea how this sounds compared to that, but this sounds great. The vocals performed by Tamara Kent are great, a clear and crisp voice, at times invincible, indestructible, at times terribly fragile, as if she could break any second. Tamara’s voice reminds me a lot of Tori Amos, especially on “It’s too late”, where the piano treatment resembles the sound of Amos as well, only the surroundings here are a bit more industrial.
The remix provided by Dead Poets Society is truly magnificent, ever growing, ever changing, the vocals layered over simple electronics and great noisy beats with the piano floating on top…”

A Collision of Sound...

March 29th

A few months back we did a remix for the great goth/darkwave band Collide in support of their new CD "Vortex", a double CD that contains people such as  Charlie Clouser (from Nine Inch Nails) among many others. Our remix "Halo - Dead Poets Society" is not on the CD but it is available for full streaming pleasure exclusively on their website at the following link. Enjoy! Let us know what you think as always! If you'd like to purchase a copy of our remix you can get it here for the very low donation of 75 cents.

Decomposing Composers!

We now have copies of Decomposition: Re-Inventing Minefield available. The mixes are taken from MINEFIELD’s 2001 5 song ep entitled `After The Ball” and feature the work of 10 international artists of the Electronic/Goth genre. The compilation was conceived by music publicist Jett Black of Nocturnal Movements. DECOMPOSITION features a wide palette of sound skillfully woven together to form an exquisite 55+ minute musical tapestry. Trance, Industrial, Trip-hop, Ambient, Punk and Techno treatments are all on the menu. Fans of Dead Poets Society, Soy Futura, Soviet Radio, Karl Mohr , Spectre VII, Cryptomnesia, Blue Mars, Bytet, Ingrown and The Synthetic Dream Foundation will delight at these new interpretations of Minefield classics. `The mixes on this disc really do underscore our electronic influences and push the envelope as far as experimentation goes’ claims Tamara Kent, vocalist and lyricist for MINEFIELD.

If you are interested in picking up a copy for yourself keep an eye on CDbaby.com. The album is scheduled to be available there later this month. We will be certain to let everyone know once it is up.

Gothic Vixen reviews The Electric Haze and Deprogramming!

GothicVixen - October 2002

THE ELECTRIC HAZE

Boys and girls, run to the dollar store and get yourself some glowsticks, out of Oregon comes what might be some of the darkest techno to grace your local dance club. Dead Poets Society presents us with a mighty fine mix of percussion and keyboard sounds in thier release titled The Electric Haze. Fans of The Dust Brothers will be pleased with this darker twist on modern electronic music. (And why wasn’t any of this on the Fight Club sountrack I wonder?) Theres definately some trance, some dance, and something else that I can’t quite put my finger on, but its a good thing, indeed. While the ideas behind the music are not totally original, the way it’s presented is a bit left of tradional techno.

Precusionist Wa’s sounds are not as driving as most music of this genre, making it a good disc to just listen to if your not in the mood to dance, however Raven Nightshado’s keys make nicely flowing rhythms that are easily danceable.

With a bare minimum of vocals, and all of them being samples, the songs can be about whatever they inspire in the listener. Notable tracks include “I Dream of Japan”, which could easily be mistaken for traditional Japanese music, and reminded me of the cherry blossoms and the bum on the benches outside museums in Tokyo. While “Damn Fine Coffee” has some of the best precussion on the disc and might just give you the feeling of being wired.

Overall this would be a good disc to make a present for your favorite DJ or to play at your own parties. Just dont take to many hallucinogens before you try these sounds out, or you might just see the electric haze in a wholly disturbing way.

DEPROGRAMMING

Dead Poets Society may ring a bell to most people as a group of kids going though adolescence and secret poetry readings from the movie of the same name with Robin Williams. Or at least that was what I first thought of when I saw the bands name on the CD titled Deprogramming. Deprogramming is the second CD that we havve seen this band come out with. The songs on this album are high-energy instrumental pieces that I could see in a variety of settings such as coffee houses and nightclubs. There is something to be said for such flexible albums.

I was perplexed by exactly how one would dance to this sort of music without popping a few pills first. Dead Poets Society has a pulsing beat that drives you into a trance like dance state with tracks like “Synners” and “Strung Out”. I would recommend this album as great ambient music for any shop or music collection.

Wrapped in Wire reviews The Electric Haze

Wrapped in Wire

This act creates great electronic instrumentals. Their music is very full and well textured with a lot happening in it. Since these are instrumental tracks relying simply on the music without vocals, the music needs to be good to hold your interest. And the music is superb. It mixes a lot of different genres within it such as EBM, techno, trance, tribal, ambient, experimental, etc.

This is pure electronic music created with programming, sampling and synths. There is a lot of variety throughout this release with each and every track sounding different. Some stand out more than others, but everything is good here.

There is a mixture of structured music and experimental music to be found here. I do find the structured music to be a little easier to listen to and enjoy. But the experimental music is interesting in its own way as well.

If you enjoy varied electronic music without any vocals, this CD is for you.
